Visory Privacy Policy

The Short Version

Visory is built to collect as little as possible. The app does not require an account, does not ask for your name, email address, immigration status, or any other personal identifiers, and does not sell personal information. Setting a location to find nearby resources is optional, and location data you set is stored only on your own device. If the app crashes, an anonymous technical crash report is sent to our crash reporting service so we can fix the problem. This policy explains the details, the limited situations in which information may be handled, and the rights you have under California, other U.S. state, and international law.

1. Who We Are and Scope of This Policy

Visory is a product of Aurelis LLC, a California limited liability company, doing business as Visory (“Aurelis,” “Visory,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Visory is an educational mobile application that provides clear, easy-to-understand information about immigration court topics and helps users find official resources.

This Privacy Policy applies to the Visory mobile app for iOS and Android, the Visory support pages on our website at aurelis.dev, and Visory support communications (together, the “Visory Services”). It is separate from the general Aurelis LLC website privacy policy, which governs the rest of the aurelis.dev website. This policy does not apply to third-party websites, apps, or services that may be linked from the Visory Services, which have their own privacy policies. “Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household, consistent with California law, and “personal data” has the meaning given in GDPR Article 4(1) for users in the EU, EEA, and United Kingdom. (CalOPPA, Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 22575.)

2. Information the App Collects

Visory does not require user accounts. There is no sign-up, login, or authentication flow in the app, and the app does not collect usernames, passwords, or email addresses. The app does not ask for or capture names, phone numbers, dates of birth, immigration status, Alien Registration Numbers, case numbers, or any other personal identifiers.

When the app loads educational content and the resource directory, it connects to our content servers over an encrypted connection using an anonymous, public access role. Like nearly all internet services, the infrastructure that delivers this content may automatically log basic technical information about each request, such as IP address, device or app version information, request path, and timestamp, for security, reliability, abuse prevention, and rate limiting. These logs are not used to identify or profile individual users and are retained only for a limited period.

Preferences you set inside the app, such as a saved location label or reading preferences, are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

Crash and diagnostic data. If the app crashes or encounters an error, an automatic crash report is sent to our crash reporting provider, Sentry, so we can find and fix bugs. Crash reports include technical details such as the error and stack trace, device model, operating system version, app version, and the technical state of the app at the time of the problem, along with a random installation identifier created when the app is first run. This identifier is not your name, is not an advertising ID, and cannot be used to track you across other apps or websites. Crash reports are not linked to your identity, and we configure crash reporting to avoid collecting personal information.

3. Location Information (Optional)

The app can use location for one purpose only: helping you find nearby immigration services in the Resource Directory. Location is entirely optional. The app functions fully without it, and you can browse all content without ever setting a location.

Device location (GPS). If you tap “Use my current location,” the app requests foreground-only location permission through the operating system. Your device coordinates are converted to a city and state label, and both are stored locally on your device only. Your GPS coordinates are not transmitted to Visory servers.

Manual entry. If you type a city name or ZIP code instead, that text is sent to a third-party geocoding service (Google Maps Geocoding API as the primary service, or OpenStreetMap Nominatim as a fallback) to convert it to map coordinates. The request contains only the text you entered. No device identifiers, account information, or other data are included. The resulting coordinates are stored locally on your device only.

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, and you can clear a saved location inside the app or by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.

4. Information You Choose to Send Us

If you contact Visory support at info@visoryguide.com, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message, and we use it to respond to you, fix problems, and improve the app. Support messages are handled through standard email services and are retained only as long as reasonably needed for support, security, legal compliance, and record-keeping purposes.

5. Visory Support Pages on Our Website

The Visory support pages are hosted on aurelis.dev. Like the rest of that website, they use a small number of strictly necessary cookies and, only if you accept non-essential cookies through the consent notice, consent-based analytics. Analytics remain disabled if you decline or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. Details are described in the general Aurelis LLC website Privacy Policy, which applies alongside this policy for the website pages. (ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC Art. 5(3).)

6. App Stores and Device Platforms

You download Visory through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google may collect information in connection with your download and use of apps, such as device information, app store account details, and crash or diagnostic data, under their own privacy policies. We do not control that collection. Aggregated, non-identifying install and crash statistics that the app stores make available to developers may be used by us to understand app performance and fix problems.

7. How We Use Information

We use the limited information described above to:

• Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the app and its educational content.
• Respond to support requests and correspondence.
• Maintain the security, integrity, and availability of the Visory Services and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
• Diagnose and fix bugs and understand app performance.
• Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
• Communicate important updates about the app or this policy.
• Enforce our terms and agreements.

8. What We Do Not Do

• We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140(ad), (ah).)
• We do not show third-party advertising in the app and do not use advertising or retargeting trackers such as Meta Pixel, Google Ads remarketing tags, or TikTok Pixel.
• We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We do not provide legal representation and do not use the app to make immigration decisions.
• We do not guarantee immigration outcomes.
• We do not knowingly collect more information than is needed for the app's educational and support functions.

9. Sharing of Information

We share information only in the limited circumstances below, and never for third-party marketing:

• Service providers that help operate the Visory Services, such as hosting, content delivery, geocoding, crash reporting, email, customer support, security, and, only if paid features are added in the future, payment processing. Providers act on our behalf under confidentiality and data protection terms and may use information only to perform services for us.
• Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or where reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and security, to prevent abuse, or to enforce our terms.
• Business transfers. In a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of the transaction as described in the Business Transfers section below.

10. Third-Party Services

The Visory Services currently use the following third-party services. Each processes only the limited data described and operates under its own privacy policy:

Google Maps Geocoding API (Google LLC). Used only to convert a city name or ZIP code you type into map coordinates. This policy incorporates by reference Google's Privacy Policy, linked below, as required by the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service.

OpenStreetMap Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation). Used as a fallback geocoding service for the same purpose, under the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy linked below.

Expo Location SDK. Used on your device to access GPS with your permission. Location processing with this SDK occurs on the device, and your coordinates are not sent to Visory servers.

Expo (Expo, Inc.). Over-the-air app updates. On each app launch the app contacts Expo's update servers at u.expo.dev to check whether a new over-the-air JavaScript bundle is available. The request includes the app's runtime version, platform, and Expo project ID. No user identifiers, location data, or usage data are included. Expo's privacy policy governs data received by their update service.

Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.). Used for crash and error reporting so we can keep the app stable. Sentry receives the technical crash data described in Section 2, processes it on our behalf in the United States, and retains it only for a limited period.

Apple App Store and Google Play. Distribution platforms, as described in the App Stores and Device Platforms section above.

If we add other service providers in the future, such as analytics or payment processors, we will update this policy before or at the time they are introduced.

11. Data Retention and Deletion

Location data and preferences are stored only on your device. You can delete them at any time by clearing the saved location in the app, clearing the app's storage in your device settings, or uninstalling the app. Because this data never reaches our servers, we have no copy to delete.

Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and reliability and are then deleted or de-identified. Crash and diagnostic data is retained by our crash reporting provider for a limited period, typically 90 days, and then deleted. Support emails are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for support, security, legal compliance, and legitimate business purposes, unless a longer period is required by law. (GDPR Art. 5(1)(e).)

Because Visory has no accounts, there is no account to delete. To request deletion of any support correspondence or other information we hold about you, contact us at info@visoryguide.com.

12. Your Choices and Controls

• Location permission is optional and can be granted or revoked at any time in your device settings.
• Saved locations and preferences can be cleared in the app or by clearing app data or uninstalling.
• Crash and diagnostic reports are sent automatically so the app keeps working. You can request deletion of this data by contacting us.
• On the Visory support web pages, you can decline non-essential cookies through the consent notice, and Global Privacy Control signals are honored.
• You can contact us at info@visoryguide.com to ask questions or exercise any of the rights described in this policy.

13. Security

Aurelis LLC uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit (TLS), least-privilege access controls, and rate limiting on our infrastructure. Because the app collects no personal identifiers and keeps location data on your device, the amount of personal information at risk is minimal by design. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Children's Privacy

Visory is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, you should use Visory with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it. (16 C.F.R. part 312, COPPA Rule.)

15. Sensitive Information and Immigration Data

Immigration and citizenship status is treated as sensitive personal information under California law and several other state laws. (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140(ae).) Visory does not ask for, collect, or store immigration status, case details, or any other sensitive personal information, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for any purpose that would trigger a right to limit under California law.

Unless a future feature clearly asks for it, please do not submit sensitive immigration case details, legal documents, government identification numbers, Alien Registration Numbers, court notices, or confidential legal information through the app or through support email.

Visory provides general educational information only. Visory is not a law firm, attorney, accredited representative, or government agency, and is not affiliated with EOIR, USCIS, DHS, ICE, or any other government agency. Visory does not provide legal advice, does not represent users, does not prepare filings, and does not guarantee outcomes. Users should consult a qualified attorney or accredited representative for advice about their individual situation.

17. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights, subject to legal exceptions. (Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1798.100, 1798.105, 1798.106, 1798.110, 1798.120, 1798.121, 1798.125.)

• The right to know and access the personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
• The right to request deletion of personal information we collected from you.
• The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
• The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and if that ever changed we would provide a clear opt-out mechanism and honor opt-out preference signals as required.
• The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect or use sensitive personal information as described in Section 15.
• The right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of these rights.

Exercising Your California Rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@visoryguide.com. We will verify your identity using reasonable methods before responding and will respond within 45 days, with one 45-day extension where reasonably necessary. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf with written authorization. (Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1798.130, 1798.135(b).) We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. California residents may also lodge a complaint with the California Attorney General or the California Privacy Protection Agency. Under California's “Shine the Light” law (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83), you may request information about disclosures to third parties for their direct marketing purposes; we make no such disclosures.

18. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

The Visory mobile app does not track users across third-party apps or websites, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to disable. On the Visory support web pages, we honor browser-based opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control (GPC), as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information, consistent with Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.135(b)(1). Because browsers do not use a uniform standard for legacy Do Not Track signals, we respond through the GPC mechanism described here. (CalOPPA, Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 22575(b)(5) to (7).)

19. Privacy Rights in Other U.S. States

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Florida, Washington, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Minnesota, Tennessee, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have rights similar to those described above, including rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and certain profiling. We do not engage in targeted advertising, sale of personal data, or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@visoryguide.com. If we decline to act on your request, you may appeal by replying to our response, and we will answer your appeal within the timeframe your state's law requires. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state Attorney General.

20. Privacy Rights in the EU, EEA, and United Kingdom

If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, we process personal data only where a lawful basis under GDPR Article 6(1) or the UK GDPR applies: your consent (for example, non-essential cookies on the support pages); performance of a contract with you; compliance with a legal obligation; protection of vital interests; or our legitimate interests, such as securing and improving the Visory Services, except where overridden by your rights. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object.

You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and objection, and the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects. (GDPR Articles 15 to 22.) You may exercise these rights by contacting us, and you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority or, in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office. (GDPR Art. 77.)

21. International Users and Data Transfers

Visory is operated from the United States, and information may be processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms recognized under applicable law. Note that geocoding requests to OpenStreetMap Nominatim may be processed on servers operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation in the United Kingdom and Europe.

22. Breach Notification

If a security incident compromises personal information, we will notify affected individuals and any required regulators consistent with applicable law, including Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.82 for California residents and GDPR Articles 33 and 34 for EU, EEA, and UK residents.

23. Business Transfers

In a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our assets, information may be transferred as part of the transaction. The successor entity will handle it consistent with this policy unless you are notified otherwise and, where required by law, given the opportunity to review a different policy.

24. Google Play Data Safety Disclosure

For transparency, this section summarizes what we declare in the Google Play Data safety form, consistent with this policy:

• Data collected: App info and performance (crash logs and diagnostics) and Device or other IDs (a random installation identifier), collected automatically through our crash reporting service to keep the app stable. Collection is required for app stability, encrypted in transit, and you may request deletion at info@visoryguide.com.
• Location: your device location is processed only on your device and is never transmitted to us, so it is not declared as collected. A city or ZIP code you type is processed ephemerally by our geocoding service providers to return results in real time and is not stored by Visory.
• Data shared: none. Transfers to our service providers, such as geocoding and crash reporting, are made on our behalf and do not qualify as sharing under Google Play definitions.
• No data is sold, used for advertising, or used for tracking. Visory has no accounts, so no account or account-deletion flow applies.

25. Apple App Privacy Disclosure

This section summarizes what we declare in the App Store privacy label (App Privacy details), consistent with this policy:

• Data Not Linked to You: Diagnostics (crash data, performance data, and other diagnostic data) and Identifiers (a random installation identifier used only for crash reporting). This data is not linked to your identity.
• Data Used to Track You: none. Visory does not track you across other companies' apps and websites, and no data is used for advertising.
• Data Linked to You: none. The app has no accounts and collects no personal identifiers.
• Location: device location is processed on your device, and geocoding requests are processed ephemerally, so location is not declared as collected under Apple's definitions.

26. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including if features such as accounts, analytics, or paid features are added. Updates will include a new effective date at the top of this page, and material changes will be highlighted through the app, this page, or other appropriate notice where required by law.
